Hi all,

Yep, I'd be up for that too - a great idea

This is exactly what I want to be able to do....

Firslty the server that is hosting the site must allow third party scripts....

Then the script would have to write a file to the website recording how many times the vote button on each page/image is pressed....

Unfortunalty this is the problem...The server is unlikely to give you permissions to do this....It is classed as potentially harmful code....

Therefore most polls are offered hosted on a third party site that you link too. However these polls, for obvious reasons, tend to be limited to 'vote for your frav site' rather than allowing you 'a frav page' vote...

Thus writing a Javascript to allow page voting on your site maybe straight forward but actually implementing it seems impossible....

At least I think thats the key to the problem....Correct me if I am wrong....

Hi all,

Maybe as an additonal, paid-for service, Jan could set things up on his (or a new) server to allow licensed users of Arles to have voting facilities, comments etc. - and other services?? :D

Ok, so there'd have to be limits on the amount of space we each got but it would be so cool B)

What do you think, Jan?

Everyone else, any thoughts on other services?

I reckon, depending on number of people taking it up, say $20 per year each would cover it?

So, who's up for it?

Cheers,
Mark

[sorry for the duplicate post - but there's a duplicate thread]
<a href='http://www.arlesforum.com/index.php?showtopic=1109&st=0&#entry3799' target='_blank'>http://www.arlesforum.com/index.php?showto...st=0&#entry3799</a>

Hi again folks,

Ok, i dun the deed B)

I have now implemented it [haloscan comments www.halsocan.com] properly on the imagepages of
<a href='http://www.cilco.co.uk/stock-photos/' target='_blank'>Expressing The Moment</a>

See, for example:
<a href='http://www.cilco.co.uk/stock-photos/sea/moonlit-marina.htm' target='_blank'>Moonlit Marina...</a>

Under the navigation links you'll see two more links...
Comments | Trackback

Check 'em out and :D

So thanks again, domc - it's just what I was waiting for (ps I upgraded to the $12 minimum donation to get rid of the ads)

I'd better say that I have no relationship with haloscan. Ive no interest and nothing to gain by lauding this facility - except to help the arles community.

Cheers,
Mark
